- Annual maintenance fees (annuities) must be paid every calendar year to keep both pending applications and granted patents in force.
- Beginning from Year 2, annuities must be paid annually until the end of the protection term. The annual fee consists of a basic amount plus an additional fee for each claim.
- If the annual fee is not paid by the due date, the patentee is allowed a 12-month grace period, late fees are charged after the grace period of three (3) months, charged monthly AED 200 for individuals and AED 400 for companies (up to AED 2,000 per person and AED 4,000 for corporate).
