- In Vietnam, invention patents are valid for 20 years from the filing date.
- Beginning from Year 2, annuities must be paid annually until the end of the protection term.
- If the annual fee is not paid by the due date, the patentee is allowed a 6-month grace period, during which the outstanding annuity may still be paid. However, late payment must be made together with a surcharge equal to 10% of the unpaid annuity (i.e., the fee is doubled). Failure to pay within the grace period results in lapse of the patent right.

- The registration for an industrial design is for a period of 5 years from the filing date of the application. The registration of an industrial design may be renewed for not more than 2 consecutive periods of 5 years each by paying a renewal fee. The fee should be paid within a year of the expiration of the registration.
