- The term of a patent is 20 years from the Date of Filing of the patent application or, in the event that a patent term extension is granted, up to the end of the extended term, subject to the payment of annual renewal fees.
- The proprietor is required to renew the patent annually, starting from the 4th anniversary. Subsequent renewal will be due on the anniversary of the Date of Filing.
- The patent will lapse if the renewal fee is not paid within the prescribed period. This allows public access to the invention disclosed in the patent.
- A patent can be renewed 3 months before the renewal due date. If a patent is not renewed by the renewal due date, it may be renewed within 6 months with additional late payment fees:
- For late payment of renewal fee not exceeding one month: 50.00 SGD
- For late payment of renewal fee for each succeeding month (but not exceeding 6 months): 100.00 SGD
Singaporean Design Annuities

- Protection for a registered design lasts for an initial period of 5 years from the date of filing the application. The registration may however be renewed every 5 years up to a maximum of 15 years, subject to the payment of renewal fees.
- If no renewal is made, the registration will be removed from the register. It can be restored, subject to the payment of a restoration fee and renewal fee, within the prescribed period:
- Application for restoration of registration of a design removed from the Register, for each registration: 135.00 SGD
- Late application to extend period of registration of a design, for each registration: 50.00 SGD
