  • Annuities not required before the patent is granted, as they are included in the application fee.
  • Once the office grants the patent, every year, the owner will have to pay the maintenance fee no later than the end of the month when the application was filed.
    • Example: your application was filed on January 2020 and it was granted in March 2023, the 1st annuity has to be paid in January 2024 and there for every year in January.
  • In case miss the deadline, the Colombian patent office gives an extra 6 months grace period to pay the annuity with an additional fee.

  • Annuities must be paid in advance for each year. The 1st annuity must be paid no later than the last day of the month in which the application was filed, beginning with the granting of the patent.
  • If overdue, payment must be made within 6 months along with an additional fee of 50%.
