- In Mexico, invention patents do not incur any annual fee obligations from the application date until they are granted. Upon granting, the applicant must pay all accrued annual fees from the application date up to the grant date in a lump sum. Additionally, the applicant must pay the fees for the year of granting and the following four calendar years.
- The annual fees are prepaid based on calendar years in 5-year payment cycles, and multiple cycles can be paid in one transaction.
- If the payment is not made by the due month, the annual fee will be deferred within 6-month grace period with an additional fee, which, if severe, can lead to the patent becoming invalid. To restore the patent, a separate restoration examination fee is required.

- In Mexico, utility models are not subject to annual fee obligations prior to their granting. Once registration is approved, the applicant must pay, in a lump sum, all annual fees from the application date up to the complete calendar year before the grant, as well as the fees for the year of granting and the subsequent four calendar years at the time they pay the registration fee.
- Annual fees are calculated for complete calendar years and prepaid in 5-year cycles, with the option to pay for two or more cycles in advance. Each payment must be completed within the month that corresponds to the anniversary of the application date.
- This system applies to all utility model holders, and certain entities, such as individuals, micro and small enterprises, universities, or research institutions, can receive a 50% reduction on official fees as stipulated by regulations.
- Late payments can be paid in the 6-month grace period, but will incur additional fees, and failure to pay by the end of the grace period will result in the loss of rights. Subsequent restoration would require a restoration examination fee.

- In Mexico, a design enjoys its initial 5-year protection period starting from the registration date, with the cost included in the certification fee.
- After this period, if the holder wishes to maintain their rights, they must pay a renewal fee within the month of the application's anniversary. Each renewal extends the protection for an additional 5 years, and multiple renewal periods can be paid in advance.
- If the fee is not paid within the specified period, it can be paid during the 6-month grace period with an additional fee.
- Failure to pay by the end of the grace period will result in the registration becoming inactive. To restore the design right, one must apply for reactivation and pay the corresponding examination and reactivation fees.
