- Annual fees are scheduled to be due at the end of the application month each year. A grace period of 3 months is allowed after the due date, during which renewal can be done without a surcharge, offering a notable advantage over other countries.
- Payments are not permitted more than 2 months before the due date. For instance, if a patent was submitted on October 9, 2012, and granted on May 8, 2019, the due date for the annual fee would be October 31, with payment allowed without additional charges until January 31.
- The payment of annual fees is required starting from the 4th year after the filing date.
- Fees may be paid up to 6 months after the due date, but if payment is made beyond the initial 3 months, the annual fee plus a CHF 50 surcharge must be included.
