- The annual fees are due each year on the anniversary of date of filing. The renewal fee can be paid in the first 3 months after the due date without surcharge.
- For example if the application for the patent was submitted on October 9, 2012 and granted on May 8, 2019. The due date for the payment of the annual fee is October 9, however the renewal fee can be paid without a surcharge until January 9.
- The annual fees may also be paid up to a maximum of nine months after the due date. Payments made 3 months after the due date must include the annual fee plus a 25% surcharge. Payments made 6 months after the due date must include the annual fee plus a 50% surcharge.
- After expiry of the period of grace renewal may still be secured by paying, before the due date for the next renewal fee, the fee with a 50% surcharge and an additional fee of EUR 102.01.

- The annual fee should be paid each year from 3th year of the filing date after granted. The due date for the payment of the annual fee will be the last day of the month in which the application date falls.
- No surcharge will be incurred for the 1st – 3rd months of grace period and there will have two further 3-month terms after the first 3 months ended. 25% of the annual fee will be incurred for the 4th – 6th months of the grace period and 50% surcharge for the 7th – 9th months.
