  • Paying an annuity or renewal fee will maintain your patent for a period of up to 20 years. The 1st annuity must be paid when the applicant files the patent application.  The 2nd annuity must then be paid before the anniversary date of your patent application.
    • For example, the annuities for a patent filed on 15 July 2015 can be paid up until 15 July of each year.
  • For patents granted by the European Patent Office designating Monaco, annuities must be paid by the last day of the anniversary month of the filing.
    • For example, the annuities for a patent filed on 2 May 2009 can be paid up until 31 May of each year.
  • However, payment may still be made within an additional grace period of 6 months, from the day after the deadline. In this case, late fees equivalent to 20% of the annuity due will be surcharged.

  • National protection of design runs for a period of at least 10 years. This period may be renewed up to four times, granting a monopoly on exclusive use of your design for a maximum of 50 years from the date on which the application for registration was filed.
  • Additional late fee, if design is renewed within 6 months following the anniversary date. In the 6 months leading up to the anniversary date of the first filing, or within a maximum of 6 months after that date (renewal after the anniversary date will incur an additional late fee). The anniversary date is the date on which your registration application was filed, plus ten years.
  • If one of the designs registered as part of a single application has been sold separately, each new proprietor will need to renew registration of the specific design they now own.
    • EXAMPLE: For a registration application filed on 10 August 2001, the anniversary date is 10 August 2011.
