- EPO invention patents are protected for up to 20 years from the filing date. Annual renewal fees must be paid each year, starting from the 3rd year after the filing date. The due date for payment is the last day of the month in which the filing date falls.
- If the annual fee is not paid by the due date, it may still be paid within a 6-month grace period, subject to an additional charge of 50% of the applicable annual fee.
